We asked kristy Thomson some questions about herself...........................
When did you first start training?
I have been training for 15 years since I was 15,Hard out since 17.
Why did you start training?
I started training because I was never good and sport at school, or really interested in it, then one day I saw a photo of a lady in the USA called Marla Duncan and the next week she was on a talk show and I thought she looked awesome - Id like a body like that. So I joined the gym at darfield which was across the road and got started.
At 17 I moved to town and joined Pro -fitness. My fitness assessment was with a body builder called Shane Hobbs he said I had great genetics for bodybuilding- I Said na Im too short! He said no you have naturally big calves(which Id been teased about at school) and broad shoulders and a little waist. He said look over there and there was a lady called Lisa Masson . She was about to do Miss Universe(figure) and was 27 and I was 17. I started talking to Lisa and thought she had a great body and was my height.
Musclar but very femmine.and thought the time I train for 3-4 years I will be able to compete.
Your Favourite Competition?
I have done 19 shows, so its hard to say which would be my favourite.Top 5 would be as a Junior winning my first show and then goping on to the Nationals. The next one would be the 2004 qualifer for the Worlds and then going on to compete at the Worlds 2004. In 2007 I won the overall National title and then in 2009 winning Overall bodyfitness at the New Zealand Nationals. But I think the best one yet to come!
Favourite Exercise ?
Love the roll out wheel and Lat Raises dunbbells(seated)
What do you do for work?
My job is a Personal Trainer at Les Mills Christchurch and Im a hairdresser by trade - so i work one day a week in the hair salon and the rest is Personal training.
What are your Hobbies?
I have been doing mixing for 3 years (house and hardhouse)and sometimes play out in Clubs. Plus I like to read and really enjoy skiing.
Who has influenced you over the years?
There has been many over the years, Robyn Crotty my first pt ) Nick Hawes -fab advice and helped me over the years(she knows her stuff) Lisa Masson, Mike Debenham
Next competition?
My next comp is the Arnold Swartzenegger on March 5-7 in USA ! Yay !! There are 22 in my class(go the shorties)He he
Plan for future?
My goal was always to compete inthe USA and become a Pro.
